A fitting place for new monument

The new concrete monument occupying a temporary location in Rutlandís Main Street Park is titled ďBattle of Hubbardton.Ē Pray tell, might the permanent location for this structure be at Hubbardton Battlefield, replacing the old monument presently there on Monument Hill?

After all, the old Battle of Hubbardton monument is getting along in years, being the fifth oldest Revolutionary War monument in the nation. Maybe that old 18-foot-tall white marble spire is a bit long in the tooth.

The new more squat monument allows a more natural viewing stance, whereas the old one, being so tall, causes one to hold oneís head rather high when viewing it while reflecting on the brave soldiers who fought and died there on Monument Hill and Pittsford Ridge at the Battle of Hubbardton in 1777.
