    The Vermont Chamber of Commerce announced the selection of Sen. Patrick Leahy as its 2013 Citizen of the Year. Leahy’s contributions to Vermont will be celebrated in an awards dinner Oct. 16 at the Hilton in Burlington.

    A Middlesex resident, Leahy is the senior senator from Vermont and the Senate’s president pro tempore. He chairs the Judiciary Committee, the State Department’s budget committee, and the State Department and Foreign Operations Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee. He is the most senior member of the Appropriations and Agriculture committees, and of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. He is also the longtime co-chair of the Senate National Guard Caucus.

    He was selected by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce for the 50th anniversary of the Citizen of the Year Award for his particular efforts this year, which include the EB-5 program and economic development.
