    CENTER RUTLAND — John S. Czachor, 92, died September 8, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    He was born on June 5, 1921, in Rutland, the son of Stanislaw and Mary (Safin) Czachor.

    John was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy.

    He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII in Northern Africa and Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his meritorious service in helping to speed up the end of the war.

    He married Josephine Warzocha on May 9, 1953, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

    John was employed by the State of Vermont in the Rutland Unemployment Compensation office, and worked there for over 30 years. He was also the trumpeter in the White Eagles Orchestra, which was well-known for playing polkas.

    He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, and he was also a member of the West Rutland American Legion.

    He enjoyed working in his garden and in his beautiful flower beds. He enjoyed the family cats, Callie and Fluffy. He was a Little League coach in Center Rutland, and a New York Yankees fan. John was very proud of his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever he could.

    Survivors include three sons, Stephen J. Czachor and his wife, Jean of Manchester, CT, Michael J. Czachor of Center Rutland, and Robert F. Czachor and his wife, Jacquelyn of Rutland Town, and a sister, Jane Vajda of Center Rutland.

    He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine W. Czachor on March 19, 2010; a sister, Henrietta Tumielewicz; and two brothers, Henry and Edward Czachor.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

    Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

    Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, Barnes Street, West Rutland, VT 05777.
