    Everyone knows that Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball. What is not as well known is the first black player of African descent to play in the National Hockey League. Willie O’Ree, a Canadian native, had that distinction. He played his first game for the Boston Bruins in 1958.
