MONTPELIER - The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources is now accepting applications for the 2014 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence.

The awards recognize efforts by individuals and organizations to conserve and protect natural resources, prevent pollution and promote sustainability.

The awards were established in 1993. So far, more than 200 award-winning efforts have been recognized.

Natural Resources Secretary Deb Markowitz says that by recognizing and publicizing exemplary efforts to protect the environment, others are encouraged to take action.

Full details can be found on the website of the Environmental Assistance Office.

Applications are due by Jan. 27.
