    Eugene Kayatta

    ARLINGTON — Eugene Kayatta, 93, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, after a short illness due to a fall at home.

    He was born in Rhode Island and was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy.

    He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Okinawa.

    Mr. Kayatta owned a drug store in Massachusetts before purchasing Whipple’s Pharmacy in Manchester. He also owned Mortar and Pestle Pharmacy in Arlington.

    He was active in church and civic events in and around Manchester. He also volunteered in Jerusalem after the Six-Day War, working with the refugees.

    Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Nelda Kayatta; a daughter, Verna Farley; three grandsons and a great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by a son, Vincent Kayatta, in 2009.

    The funeral was held Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Manchester.

    Burial with military honors will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
