    COLCHESTER — David E. Mitiguy, 80, of Colchester, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

    David was born Oct. 10, 1932, the son of Arthur A. Mitiguy and Mary Wacker.

    He graduated from Cathedral High School, class of 1950, and attended the University of Notre Dame and Saint Michael’s College.

    He served in the United States Navy as a corpsman during the Korean War.

    On Nov. 28, 1953, he was married at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception to Patricia Brouillard, whom he had fallen in love with in the sixth grade at Cathedral Grade School. David was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, on Nov. 30, 2011.

    David served on the Christ the King Church pastoral board, finance board and school board; he also served for many years and was president of the board of Camp Tara. David was a member of many associations, among which he was a director of the Vermont Heart Association. He was a member and chairman of the board of trustees of Burlington’s Fletcher Free Library. He was a commissioner for 11 years of the Burlington Water Resources Department. He was a member of the board of trustees and treasurer of Fanny Allen Hospital; also he was a member and chairman of Saint Michael’s College board of associate trustees and liaison to the college board of trustees. David was president of Burlington Drug Co. from 1970 to 1997. He was a member of the board of directors of the Drug Wholesaler Association and a member and chairman of the board of the National Wholesale Druggist Association, as well as chairman of the executive committee of the National Wholesale Druggist Association.

    He is survived by his eight children and their spouses, Catherine and John Solow, of Iowa City, Iowa, Lisa and Dale Randall, of Colchester, Arthur Mitiguy, of Rutland, Christopher and Mary Jeanne Mitiguy, of Milton, Jeanne Mitiguy Bruno, of Essex, David J. and Susan Mitiguy, of Fort Worth, Texas, Margaret and James Glazier, of South Burlington, and Maria and William Burns, of Colchester; 15 grandchildren, Rebecca and Benjamin Solow, Paige Randall, Angela and David Mitiguy, Katherine and Jon Wallett, Maxwell and Natalie Mitiguy, Julia, Patrick and Ryan Mitiguy, Grace Simoneau, and Carey, Madeline and Maria Wood; two sisters, Marianne Kupic and Jeanette Powell.

    The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all David’s caregivers that became like family, Benjamin, Rose, Annemarie, Nancy and Patrice, and all the caregivers at Home Instead, Armistead and VNA.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Colchester, with burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery.

    Those who wish to make contributions in his memory, in lieu of flowers, may do so to St. Anne’s Shrine, Box 280, Isle La Motte, VT 05463.

    Visiting hours will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
