MILTON, Ill. — Louis Wilfred Gokey, 83, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the Timberpoint Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 27, 1929, in West Rutland, Vt., the son of Emery and Delia Greenier Gokey.
He was employed for over 30 years on the farm for Avis and Harold Butler of Bristol, Vt.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Leicester, Vt., and The Boy Scouts of Quincy, Ill.
Louis loved to join in for all the Felions’ family dinners and just being with them. He enjoyed sitting with their dog, Tyler, going to Cardinal games, watching ball games, bingo, going to church, being at Quincy Terrace and in Vermont, going to Project Independence.
He leaves behind a sister, Marion Czachor of Rutland, Vt.; nieces and nephews, Anita Gokey Curtis of Sudbury, Vt., Scott Curtis of Pittsford, Vt., Maryanne Diehl of Pa., Dave Gokey of Pa., Debie Kiniry of Fla., Pete Bishop of West Rutland, Delia Simpson of Pittsford, Vt. He also leaves behind his very special friends and caregivers, Rick and Sandi Felion of Milton, Ill., and other family and friends, Don, Martha, Jonah, Allison, Trisha and Teagan Felion, all of Milton, Ill.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Emory N. Gokey Jr. and Joseph Gokey.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 18 Lincoln Ave., Rutland, Vt. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rutland. His caregivers would like a special thank you to all those that made Louis’ life happy, thank you to Quincy Terrace, Timberpoint Nursing Home and Project Independence.
