    MANCHESTER — Maurice Gilbert Thompson (Moe) died Sunday, October 13, 2013, from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.

    He was born January 15, 1937, at home in Manchester, Vermont, to Willard Thompson and Edith (Niles) Thompson.

    Moe graduated from Burr and Burton in 1955, and attended General Motors School and Franklin Tech. He worked locally in auto repair, auto body repair and parts management.

    His pastimes were hunting, fishing, spending time at camp in Glover, VT, at Shadow Lake and his son’s hunting camp in Rupert, VT.

    He served as a selectman for the Town of Manchester from 1986 to 1992.

    He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manchester, and the Equinox Flying Club. Moe had been a member of the Manchester Lions Club and held offices in the club, most notably as King Lion from 1977-1978.

    He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hawkins-Thompson; sons, Michael (Bucky) Thompson of East Dorset, Vermont; Daniel Thompson and wife, Denise of East Dorset, Vermont; Jenny Sprague and husband, Kirby of Manchester, Vermont; Rebecca Denofer and husband, Jon of Rutland; the mother of their five children, Martha; grandchildren, Danielle Lawrence and husband, Seth of Mobile, Alabama; Mathew Thompson II and wife, Ashley of Wilmer, Alabama; Charrlene Thompson of Mobile, Alabama; Dustin Sprague of Manchester; and Hannah Denofer of Rutland; step-grandchildren Jessica and Amy Casey; great-grandson, Matthew Thompson III; and sister Dorothy Brophy and husband, Harvey of East Dorset, Vermont. Moe was predeceased by his son, Matthew Thompson in 2004.

    There will be a celebration of Moe’s life on Saturday, November 2, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the East Dorset Fire House, Village Street, East Dorset, Vermont.

    Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the East Dorset Fire Department, PO Box 41, East Dorset, VT 05253; or the Manchester Rescue Squad, PO Box 26, Manchester Center, VT 05255.

    Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Brewster-Shea Funeral Home in Manchester Center.
