    FAIR HAVEN — Mr. Gerard “Jerry” Joseph Miller Jr., 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 17, 2013, after a long illness.

    The son of Gerard J. and Irene (Wisdom) Miller, Jerry was born October 13, 1929, raised and educated in Brooklyn, NY.

    Jerry served as a proud United States Marine Corps Sergeant.

    On January 6, 1951, he married Viola L. Darby, relocating to the Rutland, Vermont, area in 1956.

    Jerry managed Aubuchon Hardware for 28 years, retiring in 1990. He and Viola enjoyed many years of traveling and wintering in Spring Hill and Dade City, FL. He loved to spend time fishing at “Green Dump,” and hanging out at the Wooden Soldier and Stewarts, telling stories to anyone who would listen.

    Jerry was a communicant at Our Lady of Seven Dolors; a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fourth Degree Assembly; American Legion Post 49; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3907. He was also a charter member of the Fair Haven Rescue Squad.

    He is survived by his eight children, William and his wife, Lena of Liberty Township, OH; Patricia of Bennington; Sharon and her husband, David Wood; Gerard and his wife, Mary Kay; Catherine and her husband, Jeffrey Sawyer of Essex Junction, VT; Mary and her husband, Kevin Grenier; John and his wife, Jill of Poultney; Debra and her husband, Norman Fish of Satellite Beach, FL; 15 grandchildren: Barry, Tracy, Courtney, Elizabeth, Matthew, Jennifer, Kevin, Gerard IV, Robbie, Christopher, Dylan, Sarah, Jason, Ryan, and Trevor; and 11 great-grandchildren Haedyn, Holden, Kyleigh, Madison, Matthew, Cami, Timothy, Aiden, Joseph, David, and Landyn.

    He is survived by his brother Robert and wife, Nancy of Lady Lake, FL; his sister-in-law Carol of Lancaster, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by his wife Viola in 2007, his parents in 1984, and his brother Edward in 1991.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2013, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors, 10 Washington St., Fair Haven.

    There will be no visiting hours.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Marine Toys for Tots Campaign at toysfortots.org.
