    discussed tonight

    A panel of experts will talk in Rutland today about a subject thatís all too familiar: the costs of substance abuse.

    Starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Rutland Intermediate School cafeteria, officials from the judicial system, law enforcement, health and city schools will talk about the financial cost of treating addiction and the cost to society of not treating addicts.

    Members of the panel include state Administrative Judge Amy Davenport; Vermont State Police Col. Thomas LíEsperance; Rutland Police Chief James Baker; city Assistant Superintendent Robert Bliss; Barbara Cimaglio, the stateís deputy commissioner for Alcohol & Drug Abuse Programs; Shayla Livingston of the Department of Health; and Keith Tallon, head of the state Probation and Parole Office in Rutland.

    During the event, which is free and open to the public, the panel will talk about the costs of substance abuse and then answer questions from the public.
