CSC student denies theftOctober 29,2013CSC student
A second Castleton State College athlete has denied stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Brandon E. Boyle, 21, pleaded innocent in Rutland criminal court to a felony charge of retail theft.
Boyle, who appeared in court on a citation, remains free on court-ordered conditions of release.
He is one of six student athletes at the college charged in an alleged shoplifting ring at the sporting goods store in Rutland Town.
Earlier this month, George A. Busharis, 19, pleaded innocent to four misdemeanor charges of retail theft — charges that carry a potential two-year prison term.
By contrast, Boyle, who police said worked at Dick’s and aided the thefts by voiding from receipts goods that were taken but not paid for, faces up to 10 years behind bars if convicted.
The other students charged are Mark Comstock, Eric N. Cross, Dominic S. Heller and Zachary J. Howe. The case remains open but Vermont State Police said Monday that no additional charges have been brought since the six students were charged earlier this month.MORE IN This Just InTODAY'S WEATHER MINUTE: Rutland Herald content editor Rich Alcott shares local weather information and easily digestible news tidbits: Mysterious enormous hole in the Siberian tundra baffles scientists. 0Rutland Herald content editor Rich Alcott shares local weather information and easily digestible...
