    George G. Corsones (“Gigi”) was born July 3, 1926, in Burlington, Vermont, the son of Gus G. Corsones and Pota Anagnos Corsones. However, he lived his entire life in both Rutland and Brandon, Vermont.

    He died at the Rutland Hospital after a sudden illness on October 30, 2013.

    He is survived by his long-time companion, Mary (Goulette) Forte; two sons, Dean Corsones of Naples, Florida, and Frank Corsones of New Port Richey, Florida; three daughters, Pamela Ginzburg, of Washington, D.C., Vicki Schwartz of Potomac, Maryland, and Allison Corsones of New Port Richey, Florida; his brother, Theodore Corsones of Naples, Florida, and Rutland, Vermont; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Stratton Corsones in September.

    George Corsones was a 1944 graduate of Rutland High School, where he excelled in athletics, particularly football.

    After high school, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy and honorably served as part of the greatest generation for the duration of World War II, seeing combat in the Pacific Theater. At the end of the war he attended the University of Vermont, before joining his father as a partner in the Rutland Restaurant. As an entrepreneur/restaurateur, George then opened the 19th Green and Gigi’s Steakhouse in Center Rutland. Later, he was an active real estate broker.

    George was passionate about service to his community, elected to the Rutland City School Board, where he served several terms; elected as Brandon town lister, Brandon Grand Juror, Brandon Constable; and three terms as Commander of Post 31 of the American Legion in Rutland, Vermont.

    He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW, the Elks, Freemasonry, and the Scottish Rite of Masonry and Cairo Shriners of Rutland, Vermont.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland, Vermont.

    A funeral service will be held Monday, November 4, at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland, with Father Nicanor Kuteles of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, officiating.

    Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, with a reception to follow.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of George Corsones for the benefit of scholarships for the children of area veterans, American Legion, Post 31, 33 Washington Street, Rutland, VT 05701.
