Western Vermont will not be receiving the currently cheap American natural gas that is in the news.

TransCanada, supplier of Alberta natural gas to Gouvernement du Québec’s Vermont Gas Systems, is converting part of its Canadian Mainline natural-gas pipelines to transport crude oil: the Energy East Pipeline Project.

“TransCanada says it will ensure natural gas customers receive service if its $13-billion Energy East project goes ahead, but only if they are willing to pay significantly higher tolls” (“Ontario must stand ground on pipeline projects, report says,” The Globe and Mail [Canada’s New York Times and Wall Street Journal], Nov. 11, 2013).
