John M. Harrington Sr.
STILLWATER, N.Y. — John M. Harrington Sr., 78, a longtime resident of Stillwater, died peacefully, Monday, November 25, 2013, at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush, with his loving wife and family by his side, following a short illness.
Born in North Hoosick, May 28, 1935, Mr. Harrington was the son of the late William H. Harrington and Pansy (Monroe) Harrington-Barber, and the for over 57 years, the husband of Janice A. (Lanoue) Harrington of Stillwater, who survives. John and Janice were married June 2, 1956.
Mr. Harrington was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, Class of 1952.
After working for several years with area businesses, he accepted a job in 1956 as a pipefitter with the General Electric Company in Waterford. While working there, he joined and was a member, trustee and past Vice President of the International Union of Electrical Workers, Local #359. After 38 years of service, he retired in 1994.
John was a lifelong outdoorsman and good neighbor. As a member of the Powamppakonk Fish and Game Club, he taught his children his love of the outdoors through hunting and fishing, and as a member of the B.P.O.E. Mechanicville-Stillwater Lodge #1403, demonstrated his service to the local community.
In addition to his wife Janice, John is survived by his children and their spouses who he claimed as his own, Cindy and Tom Peters of Rutland, VT, John M. and Pamela Harrington Jr. of Ballston Lake, and Michael and Laure Harrington of Mechanicville; a sister, Dawn Clark of Hoosick Falls; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Derek, Beth, Erica, Katie, Brad, Michael and Kurt, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a brother, the late William Harrington of Bennington, VT, predeceased him.
A private funeral and burial service will be held later this spring at the convenience of the Harrington family.
