    SHAFTSBURY — Mary F. Skidmore, 85, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at home.

    Born April 14, 1928, in East Arlington, the daughter of Hallie (Hall) and Hosie Sargood, she attended Arlington schools.

    She married Kenneth Skidmore June 26, 1948.

    Mrs. Skidmore was employed at Bennington College, Union Carbide Corp., Hale Co. and retired from Stanley Tools in 1990 after 18 years. She also operated a day care from her home and provided meals and a place to stay for those in need.

    She and her husband farmed in East Hebron, N.Y., and, for the past 58 years, in Granger Hollow.

    She was a member of Shaftsbury United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and attended BPI.

    She was an avid volunteer for the Senior Center, Meals Program and RSVP. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and flower arranging.

    Survivors include her husband; five children, Gayle Adams, Gary Skidmore Sr., Linda Campbell, Kathy Cardiff and Kendy Skidmore; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

    Mrs. Skidmore was predeceased by a brother, Jerome Sargood, and a grandson.

    The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home where friends may call from 11 a.m. prior to the service.

    Burial will take place in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Green Mountain Chapter of the Alzheimers Association or Bennington Project Independence, in care of Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
