    GOSHEN — Ruth Barber Breen, age 97, of Goshen, VT, formerly of Charleston, SC, and Hartford, CT, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at her home in Goshen.

    Mrs. Breen was born in East Windsor, CT, on July 12, 1916. She was the daughter of Howard and Harriett (Osborne) Barber.

    She attended UConn and graduated from Morse College.

    Mrs. Breen was employed by Connecticut Bank and Trust in Hartford, as their first female outside Sales Rep for MasterCard. Later, Ruth and husband, Joe (J.Q.), entered the hospitality business on Cape Cod and New Jersey.

    She loved gardening, entertaining, traveling to visit grandchildren, family and friends, tennis, basketball, reading, listening to J.Q.’s stories and jokes, walking by the ocean, watching the birds, and sunsets and laughing.

    Surviving are her son, David C. Breen and his wife, Rene, of Goshen, with whom she lived and was lovingly cared for in her last years; two daughters, Judith Breen Griswold and husband, Richard of Concord, NH, and Candace Breen-Lee and husband, Robert, of Silver City, NM; a grandson, R. David Griswold and wife, Denise; granddaughters, Rain Lee Barnes and husband, Bryce and Sarah, Callie, Julianna, who also lovingly cared for her and Emma Rubbins-Breen and April Lee; great-grandchildren: Buster, Bailey and Brycen Barnes.

    She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Quentin Breen on December 26, 2008; three sisters: Marion Warner, Hazel Morell and Gertrude Smith; and an infant great-grandson, Braiden Barnes in March 2006.

    The graveside committal service and burial, “In Celebration of Her Life,” will take place at a later date in The Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Joseph.
