in scrapyard scam
An employee at a Rutland Town salvage yard and a customer are facing felony charges for allegedly tipping the scales on scrap metal brought to Rosen & Berger Auto Parts, according to Vermont State Police.
Andrew Grandchamp, 52, of Brandon, was arrested Tuesday and charged with embezzlement and conspiracy for allegedly taking payment — a pack of cigarettes — for falsifying the weight of scrap metal delivered to the yard by Robert Withington of Rutland.
Withington, 42, was also arrested and charged with a felony count of conspiracy and misdemeanor offenses of larceny and driving with a suspended license.
Police said another man, Glenn Carvey, 44, of Rutland was charged with driving without a license. Police did not specify what role, if any, Carvey had in the alleged weight conspiracy.
All three men are scheduled to appear in Rutland criminal court in February.MORE IN This Just InTOMORROW'S HEADLINES TODAY: Two fires, one in West Rutland and the other in Middletown Springs, keep firefighters busy, sports and update on robbery at Jenny Wren's in Springfield. 0News Editor Alan Keays, staff writer Darren Marcy and Sports Editor Bob Fredette discuss some of...
