    Darlene Jean Manning, 62, of Rutland and formerly of Brandon, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H.

    She was born Sept. 17, 1951, in Rutland, the daughter of Charles Joseph and Betty Jean (Waite) Sargent. She received her early education in Rutland schools and attended Middlebury High School.

    She married Robert Sharon Manning in Middlebury, May 23, 1969. They made their home in Brandon. He predeceased her July 21, 1992. She returned to Rutland in 2004.

    She worked as a homecare provider for several years.

    She enjoyed reading, puzzles and crocheting.

    Survivors include a daughter, Tina Marie Mallette of Brandon; two sons, James E. Manning of Clarendon and Kenneth L. Manning of Forest Dale; four grandchildren; a sister, Laurie Sargent of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers: Charles Sargent of Hampton, N.Y., and Michael Sargent, William Sargent and Fredrick Sargent, all of Rutland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and a son, Robert Stuart Manning.

    The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, , at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery’s Receiving Vault, where the graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date.

    Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Meals on Wheels, c/o Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging, 1085 US Route 4 East, Unit 2-B, Rutland, VT 05701.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
