ST. ALBANS ó Police in St. Albans have arrested a man accused of driving a city police cruiser, striking an officer who tried to stop him, and then crashing the vehicle after a nearly 2-mile chase.

Police said the officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released Sunday night.

Police first chased Roger Patenaude on foot; there was an active arrest warrant for him. They said the 34-year-old Patenaude found an unlocked, running police cruiser and hit the officer, who ordered him to stop.

Police pursued Patenaude. They said he eventually crashed the cruiser into a utility pole on Route 104.

He was treated at a hospital, then arrested on charges including aggravated assault and attempting to elude.
