• Appalling treatment of city student

    After reading the article “State: City schools violated student’s right to education,” I was shocked. How could a student in the Rutland City Public School system have been treated this way? How many others have received this unfair treatment? This student was physically restrained (pinned to the floor by four to six adults holding wrists and ankles) and left in an empty room for hours a day with no educational instruction for three months. Reading this bothered me so much that I looked into it more. The details of what occurred are even more appalling.

    The school district needs to admit that what they did is wrong and provide and use the proper training with staff members and educators who work within our school system. This is the only way to ensure the safety of the students and educators.

    Rutland City Schools has an anti-bullying program that encourages people to speak up when someone is being treated unfairly. Looking the other way is not an option. So I encourage others to let the school know how you feel about their actions.

    This is a subject that cannot be ignored.
