I commend Nick Santoro for the outside-the-box thinking that led to his suggestion that Rutland crowdsource support for infrastructure repair (Feb. 27). I suspect, however, that most of the citizens of Rutland feel too overloaded with taxes and other costs of living here to adopt a stretch of sidewalk or length of sewer pipe.

There are, however, a few well-to-do individuals and organizations who own substantial chunks of the above-ground property in the city. Perhaps they should be invited to pay for some infrastructure repairs to ensure that their buildings have something firm to sit on.

This line from the Gospel of Luke might be attached to the invitation:

“From everyone to whom much is given, much shall be required.”
