SPRINGFIELD — Alice Jane Kraft, 83, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 1, 1931, in Orange, N.J., the daughter of Victor and Clara (Haines) Van Dessel.
She graduated from Bloomfield High School and later from Douglas College in New Brunswick, N.J., with a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science.
On March 29, 1952, she married Henry Kraft in Bloomfield, N.J.
Mrs. Kraft was a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and hiking, backpacking and hiking on the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail.
She was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Calvary Baptist Church in Claremont, N.H., and Advent Christian Church in North Springfield and the Good News Club through the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Vermont. She also taught Bible study,
Survivors include her husband of Springfield; two sons, James and Stephen Kraft of Springfield; two daughters, Ruth Wadleigh of Charlestown, N.H., and Jae Wiss of Newport, R.I.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two siblings, Robert Van Dessel and Ruth Lender.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, where a calling hour will begin at 10 a.m., before the service officiated by the Rev. Harold Noyes, pastor of Athens Community Church.
Burial will be at a later date in Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
