    BENNINGTON — Carolyn S. Bruso, 81, of Concord, N.H., and formerly of Bennington, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home.

    She was born July 8, 1932, in Groveton, N.H., the daughter of Raymond and Alice Lauretta (Messer) Summers.

    She received a nursing degree from the Putnam Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Bennington.

    She was employed at various nursing homes in the area, and most of her nursing was at Crescent Manor care centers. She relocated to New Hampshire, and was employed at the State Hospital in Concord.

    She had been a member of the Bennington VFW Post #1332 Auxiliary.

    She enjoyed dancing, and doing crossword puzzles.

    Survivors include five children: Brenda Kinney, Francis Kinney, Steven P. Bruso, Crystal Dawn Morse, and Lisa Ann Sanborn; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Ruth Covell, Frances McCrea, Jean Beaule, Raylene Provencher and Janet Gilman; two brothers: William Summers and Francis Messer; and several nieces and nephews, including her caregiver and niece, Karen Moody.

    She was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Bruso; two brothers, Bruce Summers and Gordon Summers; and a sister, Joyce Metcalf.

    Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, at 12 noon at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington. Private interment will take place at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
