    ROCKINGHAM — John G. “Jerry” Lawlor Jr., 83, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

    He was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Bellows Falls, the son of John and Gertrude Ramona (Haight) Lawlor.

    He attended school in Bellows Falls, and graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1949.

    On Oct. 6, 1950, he married Elizabeth J. “Betty” Stone.

    He worked at Bryant Grinder Corp. in Springfield, and then at the Book Press in Brattleboro for 30 years. In 1996, he retired from a 40-year career as a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Post Office.

    He enjoyed snowmobiling and was an original member of the Abenaqui Snowmobile Club. He also enjoyed the Maine seacoast and visiting lighthouses. Gardening, feeding birds, cocker spaniels and Alumni Weekend were also things he enjoyed. He had an entry in the Alumni parade every year, beginning in 1949. He was also a car enthusiast and attended local car shows in his 1964 Ford Galaxie.

    Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Lawlor of Rockingham; three sons: John G Lawlor III, Brian D. Lawlor, and Jeffrey M. Lawlor; two daughters; Donna J. Cenate and Susan C. Lawlor; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Steven C. Lawlor; two grandsons, Eric K. Lawlor and John G. Lawlor IV; a sister, Gertrude “Betty” Burbee; and a niece.

    A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls, with burial to follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

    Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
