Congratulations and praise to the scientists at the South Pole and their professorial counterparts at MIT who went back in time to a few trillionths of a second after the big bang.

This is marvelous science. But let’s stop for a moment and also praise Georges Lemaitre, a Catholic priest and astrophysicist who propounded the big bang theory in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Today’s astrophysicists have made brilliant discoveries, but Father Lemaitre was the first to put the theory forward. You can read about it on Google.
