An inmate at the Rutland jail will face a new charge for allegedly striking another prisoner.
Vermont State Police say 26-year-old Joseph N. Shackett III struck fellow inmate Jacob Gero, 23, in the back of the head during a fight in the jailís A pod on Monday afternoon.
Shackett, who is in jail for an alleged probation violation, was charged with simple assault and will appear in Rutland criminal court next month.
