    Author lectures on Viking culture

    CASTLETON — A lecture on Viking culture and old Norse society will be held Thursday at Castleton State College.

    The free lecture is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Herrick Auditorium.

    Author Nancy Marie Brown will discuss the role of women in the old Norse society, archeology as a tool in interpreting historical narrative, the environmental impacts of Norse settlement, Iceland’s Snorri Sturluson and the preservation of Norse mythology.

    Brown has more than 30 years of experience as a writer and editor.

    Her works include: “The Far Traveler: Voyages of Viking Women”and the more recent “Song of the Vikings: Snorri and the Making of Norse Myths.”
