ROCHESTER — Norman Forbes Pratt, 78, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born July 12, 1935, in Stockbridge, the son of LeRoy and Irene (Boutwell) Pratt.
He attended Stockbridge, Richmond and Rochester schools, graduating from Rochester High School in 1952 as valedictorian at the age of 16. He then attended the University of Vermont.
After his schooling, he worked at Jack’s Valley IGA, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He married Dorine Judd in 1955, and they made their home in Melrose, Mass.
Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for Raytheon Co., Missile Systems Division for more than 14 years. In 1972, he returned to Vermont and worked as the manager of Murray’s Store for a short time before purchasing the store. He later worked for Keith Jesso Remodeling & Construction, followed by managing Hancock Building Supply, and then 12 years at Advanced Illumination, until his retirement in 2012.
He held various municipal positions for the town of Rochester, including justice of the peace, lister, School Board (chairman), Board of Selectmen (chairman), and for 23 years, as meetings moderator.
Survivors include his son, Timothy Pratt; wife Wendy and two grandchildren, Lauren and Tanner Pratt, all of Rochester. He was predeceased by his wife Dorine Pratt and daughter, Tina Marie Pratt.
