    Dr. Edward C. Woods

    Dr. Edward Carter Woods, 97, of Rutland, died March 30, 2014, at Mountain View Genesis Eldercare Network.

    He was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Rutland, the son of Carter R. and Mable (Root) Woods.

    He attended Rutland High School, Dartmouth College and Harvard University School of Dentistry. He completed his dental internship at Strong Memorial in Rochester, N.Y.

    He served for three years during World War II in the African Corps, as a captain in dentistry.

    He practiced dentistry in Rutland and Poultney for more than 45 years.

    He served as president of Vermont State Dental Society, and was president and a continuing member of the Rutland Lions Club.

    He enjoyed family summers at Lake Dunmore and Lake Bomoseen. He also enjoyed skiing, horses, boating, hunting, fishing, golf and being a gentleman farmer.

    Survivors include a daughter, Diana Woods; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; stepchildren, Sandra Lober and Dean Kent.

    He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Dyer-Kent Woods; and his first wife, Dorothy Fox-Woods, and their son, Douglas Carter Woods.

    There will be no calling hours or services.

    Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Rutland.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Tossing Funeral Home.
