    Police arrest

    assault suspect

FAIR HAVEN — A Whitehall, N.Y., man wanted by police since an incident in February when he allegedly broke into a Fair Haven home and assaulted a woman at gunpoint was returned to Vermont on Tuesday, according to Fair Haven Police.

A Rutland judge ordered an arrest warrant for Charles P. Kendall, 44, after Kendall allegedly fled from police after a home invasion incident on North Main Street during the early morning hours of Feb. 15.

Kendall will face felony charges of burglary in an occupied dwelling and aggravated domestic assault in the first degree with a weapon for the incident which police say involved Kendall breaking into the home, threatening a woman in bed with a .22 Derringer pistol and then choking her to the point that she couldn’t breathe.

Kendall was arrested by Whitehall Police in late February for being a wanted fugitive. On Tuesday, he waived extradition and was returned to Vermont where he is being held at the Rutland jail.

Fair Haven police didn’t say when he would appear in court to answer the charges.
