    Harold M. Foster

    Harold Meyers Foster, passed away April 6, 2014, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

    Harold was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, Feb. 11, 1929, to Henry and Thyra (Meyers) Foster.

    He lived in Warwick, until moving to Rutland, Vermont, in 2011 to be closer to family.

    Harold was a graduate of Westtown School, Class of 1947 and Temple University, with a degree in Business Administration.

    He served in the Army of Occupation in Germany 1951-1953.

    He married Anne Rosenthal of Pittsfield, MA, in 1966.

    An engineer by trade, Harold developed his craft as Master Tinkerer as a young man on the family farm. He later entered the manufacturing field, developing key components for the burgeoning plastics industry. He retired as plant manger from the Turex Corporation in 1996.

    Upon retirement, Harold continued his life-long interest in manufacturing by restoring antique steam engines at various museums in the historic manufacturing region of the Blackstone Valley of RI, and The New England Wireless and Steam Museum in East Greenwich, RI. He received numerous awards and commendations for his efforts.

    Harold believed in hard work, industry and the economic engine that made this country great.

    Harold was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Anne.

    He is survived by his twin sister, Thera Hindmarsh, Putney, VT; his brother, John and wife, Georgianna, Northampton, MA; nephews, Ethan Foster, Lebanon, NH; Joshua Foster, Corvallis, OR; Walter Hindmarsh, Northampton, MA; Thomas Hindmarsh, Charlestown, NH; and nieces, Elizabeth Hindmarsh, Wilder, VT; and Alison Briggs, Chittenden, VT.

    In keeping with his pragmatic nature, Harold donated his body to the Geisel School of Medicine, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Kent Hospital Foundation, Kent County Hospital, 455 Tollgate Road. Warwick, RI 02886; or The New England Wireless and Steam Museum, 1300 Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich, RI 02818-1309.
