SPRINGFIELD — Lyman Prouty, 86, died Thursday morning May 1, 2014, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Grafton, the son of Harvey and Flossie (Thomas) Prouty. He attended schools in Grafton.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II during the occupation of Japan.
He was employed with the town of Grafton, St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. and as a machinist in the Drill and Cutter Shops with Fellows Gear Shaper Co. for 34 years.
He was married to Marilyn Come for 30 years. They divorced and on April 28, 1984, he was married to Rosabel A. LaFrance in Springfield.
He was a member of Assembly of God Church and a lifetime member of Robert L. Johnson VFW Post 771 in Springfield. He enjoyed singing and dancing, and shoveling snow. Also, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid Red Sox fan and was a youth baseball coach for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Rosabel, of Springfield, one son, Mark Prouty, of Weathersfield; one stepson, Rick Johnson of Springfield; one stepdaughter, Debra Richardson of Springfield; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Delwyn, Walter, Katherine, Amy and Marjorie.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5 2014, at Davis Memorial Chapel Springfield. The Rev. Don Hashem will officiate, burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. at Davis Memorial Chapel on Sunday evening.
