A Mendon woman on Monday denied a charge of stealing from her place of employment at Kmart in Rutland.
Barbara M. Bacon, 30, pleaded innocent in Rutland criminal court to a felony charge of embezzlement, which carries the potential penalty of 10 years in jail.
Bacon, who appeared in court on a citation, remains free on conditions of release that include she stay away from Kmart.
Rutland County Sheriff’s Deputy Billy-Jo Leonard said Bacon was arrested in March after her employers said they caught her taking money while in the department store’s cash room.
Leonard said Bacon admitted to taking $505 from the store over a two-month period.
