    Theodore M. Galipeau

    Theodore M. Galipeau, 86, a resident of Jefferson Avenue in Bennington, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington after a brief illness.

    He was born March 13, 1928, in Bennington. He was the son of the late Theodore M. and Veronica (Grennon) Galipeau. He received his education in Bennington. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in the military police and was assigned to duty at the Nuremburg war crimes trials in Germany at the close of the war.

    He married the former Virginia M. Thompson July 15, 1950, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Mrs. Galipeau died February 23, 2003.

    In earlier years, Mr. Galipeau owned and operated a Gulf station on South Street. From 1962 until he retired in 1975, he owned and operated Art Wards on Benmont Avenue in Bennington.

    He enjoyed spending his summers at Lake Lauderdale. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed going to Spring Training. He enjoyed watching March Madness and was a Duke Blue Devil fan. He enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. He was very fond of his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Galipeau, who was his caretaker and best friend.

    Survivors include his children, Theodore E. Galipeau of Bennington, Jeffrey Galipeau of Columbus, Ohio, Hope Gerity and her husband, Mark, of Bennington, Joseph Galipeau of Bennington and Michael Galipeau and his wife, Jennifer, of Bennington; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Bernard Galipeau.

    Friends may call on Monday, May 12, 2014, from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m. at Mahar and Son Funeral Home.

    The graveside service with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.
