    $1M lottery winner

    comes forward

PUTNEY — The holder of the $1 million Powerball ticket sold at the Exit 4 Sunoco in Putney has come forward, according to Vermont Lottery officials.

Richard Wilson II, who lottery officials say has longtime family ties in the state of Vermont, claimed his winnings Friday at the Vermont Lottery headquarters. Wilson’s winning ticket matched five out of five numbers, not including the Powerball, in the April 30 drawing.

Wilson has been a regular Powerball player for years, purchasing them where he can when he can, the lottery said in a press release. Wilson normally checks his numbers by phone the day after a drawing and expressed shock and disbelief when he realized he had won the $1 million prize, according to the release.
