The Rutland County 4-H horsemanship clinic was held at the fairgrounds over May 9-11. Twenty-one 4-Hers, their families and project horses spent the weekend on the grounds. The members received seven and a half hours of riding instruction over two days, in four riding groups based on ability and interests. They were also evaluated on their stable management skills, grooming of their horse, safety, tack and equipment, as well as their overall sportsmanship. Through this process, the 4-H members work together and independently on many life skills, which is a core value of the entire 4-H program.

On behalf of the 4-Hers, their families, leaders and instructors, we would like to thank the Rutland County Agricultural Society and the fairgrounds management crew for all their assistance in preparing the grounds for our arrival. We met in early April to assess some areas that needed attention and the various areas of the fairgrounds that would be used. The crew, led by Rick McKirrhyer, Dennis Chabot and Dave Fitzgerald, did work to the barn, water lines, electricity, and many other areas to help make our clinic the great success it was. We want to recognize their wonderful cooperation and willingness to make our weekend pleasant. They were always only a phone call away.

While there may still be work ahead in general repair and maintenance to our area of the fairgrounds, we are very encouraged at the response and dedication of the current management. We see only good outcomes moving forward.
