    Court officials warn

    of bogus emails

Authorities are warning the public to beware of email telling the recipient they have just received important information from the state court system that must be opened.

Court officials say several Windham County residents reported receiving email messages with the subject line, “Notice of Appearance.” The messages also state that an attached notice must be opened for more information and is signed, “Truly yours, Susan Mason, clerk to the court.”

“These emails are not legitimate court notices, and the attachments are likely malware that will attempt to gather personal information stored on the user’s computer,” court officials said in a release issued Monday. “Please instruct anyone receiving such an email to not open the attachment, and to report the receipt of the email to their Internet Service Provider.”
