Forest Service waives fees
The U.S. Forest Service will waive all fees at the Green Mountain National Forest on Saturday.
Overnight fees will also be waived at the Chittenden Campground and Moosalamoo Campground. Fees are being waived in recognition of National Get Outdoors Day, which is dedicated to raising awareness for outdoor recreation and encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.
Camping and day-use fees are generally collected in developed campsites on the 400,000 acre Green Mountain National Forest (GMNF) in Vermont to support maintenance of forest recreation facilities, although the Forest Service does not charge for access to 98 percent of its land.
All camping on the GMNF is on a first come, first serve basis with no reservations required. There is a maximum stay of 14 days in a 30-day period.
