    Timothy William Betit

    POULTNEY — Timothy William Betit, 46 of Poultney died unexpectedly June 6, 2014 in Charlotte, N.C.

    He was born on Dec. 19, 1967 in Rutland, the son of Francis and Jean (Gould) Betit.

    Mr. Betit grew up in Hampton, NY, and graduated from the Granville (NY) High School in 1985; following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served in Desert Storm prior to his honorable discharge.

    He lived in Georgia for several years where he was a sheriff and a prison guard, after relocating to Poultney he was employed by Precision Auto Body then became a mechanical engineer by First Light in Poultney.

    Mr. Betit was a member of the J. Claire Carmody Post #39 American Legion and the commander of the Poultney American Legion Riders. He was a former member of the Independent Riders.

    Survivors include his daughter, Arianne Betit of South Carolina; his mother Jean Betit of Hampton, NY; 2 sisters Karen Weaver of Bennington and Tina Betit of Fair Haven; 2 brothers Steve Betit of Poultney and Francis Betit Jr. of Hampton, NY; his companion Julie Denko and her children Kayla and Nathan Bourn and beloved dog Winter all of Poultney, several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by a son, Joey Betit, in 1987 and his father in 2003.

    Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven. Followed by a reception at the J. Claire Carmody Post #39 American Legion Hall in Poultney.
