Police say woman stole from 3 stores

BENNINGTON — A local woman is facing three misdemeanor charges of petty larceny after police said she stole items from three local stores in two days in May.

Jennifer A. Brandmeyer, 25, of Bennington, pleaded innocent to the charges in Bennington criminal court Monday and was released without bail.

The charges against Brandmeyer were based on two affidavits, both written by Officer Keith Diotte of the Bennington Police Department.

In one, Diotte said he was dispatched May 26 to Cumberland Farms on Northside Drive in Bennington.

Based on information provided by a clerk at the store and his viewing of surveillance video later, Diotte said he believed Brandmeyer stole a 12-pack of beer.

In the second affidavit, Diotte said he was dispatched May 27 to Payless Shoe Store in Bennington Square shopping center in Bennington. A clerk at the store said she saw Brandmeyer take shoes and leave without paying for them.

Diotte said police later learned Brandmeyer had taken sunglasses and said the total amount of merchandise taken from Payless was a little more than $50.

When police arrested Brandmeyer, she also had items from JCPenney, which is in the same shopping center as Payless. The items from JCPenney’s totaled about $380 according to the affidavit.
