George L. Petty
George L. Petty, 80, of Rutland, died Friday morning June 20, 2014, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.
He was born May 1, 1934, in Rutland, the son of Rupert L. and Adeline Margaret (Jennett) Petty.
Mr. Petty grew up in Rutland, where he attended local schools, joining the Vermont National Guard at the Age of 15, until his father found out.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean and Vietnam War prior to his retirement and honorable discharge following 21 years of service.
Mr. Petty was a member of the American Legion Post #31, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #648, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1122, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk Lodge #345, and the Italian Aid Society.
He loved to play cards and enjoyed golf and rip-open tickets.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, whom he married May 4, 1986, 2 daughters: Sandy Crossman and her husband, Ron, of Pittsford and Christine Allen and her husband, Robert, of Brandon, 3 sons: George Petty Jr. of North Carolina, David Petty and his wife, Brenda, of Poultney and Rupert Petty and his wife, Rowena, of Pittsford; 2 step-daughters Colette Sealy of Rutland and Robin Strickland of Florida; 3 step-sons: David Boynton and Michael Boynton both of Rutland, and Timothy Boynton of Arlington, 2 sisters: Jean Fowler of Castleton and Nancy Johnson of Franklinton, NC; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Ellen Mae Bruce.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Aldous Funeral Home. Fraternal services will be at 6 p.m.
Burial with military honors will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Vermont.
