    SPRINGFIELD — Pamela Sue Taft-Dick, 63, of Springfield, died at home on Sunday, July 13, 2014, after a short illness.

    She was born Jan. 27, 1951, and raised in Springfield, where she graduated from Springfield High School in 1969. She attended Middlebury College where she graduated in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in German. She lived and taught in Germany from 1974 to 1976, perfecting her German language skills.

    In 1977, she married Jeffrey Dick in Springfield and for the next 32 years accompanied him in his career with the United Nations World Food Program, living in five countries in Africa (Mali, Liberia, Mauritania, Chad and Niger), three countries in Asia (Philippines, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), as well as in Rome (WFP headquarters).

    Mrs. Taft-Dick obtained a master’s degree in German from Middlebury College in 1981. Her foreign language skills enabled her to work as a language teacher most of the countries in which she and her husband lived. She loved music and sang in international choral groups.

    Survivors include her parents, Hugh and Barbara Taft of Hanover, N.H.; her husband of 36 years, Jeffrey Taft-Dick of Springfield; three children, Jonathan Taft-Dick and Joya Taft-Dick, both of Washington, D.C., and Philip Taft-Dick of San Diego, Calif.; two siblings, Rod Taft of Medfield, Mass., and Martha Taft of Washington, D.C., a nephew, a niece and one grandnephew.

    She was predeceased by her sister Paula Taft in 2007.

    A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Congregational Church in Springfield. Burial will be at a later date.

    Davis Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
