The Poultney Select Board, the Poultney village Board of Trustees and I wish to thank everyone involved in helping our community cleanup after the devastating storm that occurred on the evening of July 3.

With wind speeds between 60 and 80 mph, this unprecedented storm uprooted many trees and caused severe damage to homes, buildings, farm structures, automobiles. Most importantly, and thankfully, no personal injuries were reported.

Special thanks go out to so many for their efforts in very difficult and dangerous conditions: to Green Mountain Power for responding with 38 utility crews, 15 tree crews and approximately 40 support staffers working around the clock for several days to restore power to area residents; to our municipal public works employees of the town and village of Poultney who worked tirelessly clearing roads for the power company and for the public to maneuver safely throughout the community; to the Poultney Fire Department, the Poultney Rescue Squad, the Vermont State Police, our town constable and the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department, who serve and protect this wonderful community and its citizens; to local contractors who stopped within minutes after the storm to offer their services; to countless volunteers from our community and surrounding communities who responded without hesitation, checking on neighbors for assistance and reassurance as well as taking care of neighborhoods by clearing debris from roads, homes and property; to the church in East Poultney who opened their doors and provided food for workers and area residents; to William’s Hardware (Bob) for keeping their store open all night for much-needed supplies; to the American Red Cross who responded with bedding for the MMLA students at Green Mountain College; and to the untold acts of kindness given throughout the storm’s aftermath.

    We thank you!
