    gets more jail time

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A convicted drug dealer who tearfully thanked a judge late last year for allowing her to spend a last weekend at home with her two young daughters before beginning her sentences — and who then failed to show up at the jail the following week — will spend an extra month or two behind bars as a result.

Rachel Quirion, 29, of Springfield, was eventually tracked down, arrested and began serving her two-to-four years at the women’s prison in Chittenden County in late February, but last week she was returned to the courtroom where she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of contempt of court resulting in an additional one-to-two months that will be served consecutively once her present sentence is completed.

Quirion was one of 36 suspected drug dealers arrested in Springfield and Ludlow a year ago during the “Operation Precision Valley” drug sweep, and in December, she pleaded guilty to felony counts of sale of heroin and sale of crack cocaine.

At the time of her original sentencing, Quirion had asked Judge Karen Carroll to delay her report date to the jail because she only got to see her children every other weekend and wanted to “get her affairs in order.” Quirion had wiped away tears as she thanked Carroll for allowing her to return home for the weekend in exchange for the promise to report to the jail the following Wednesday morning.

“I will serve the time I got,” Quirion said at the time.
