The Select Board in Brandon wonders what they are there for. They are voted into office to do what’s best for Brandon’s citizens without putting taxpayers in the poorhouse, even if it is not what they want.

The state mandates the towns take care of their roads. So they cut the road crew down when we are facing the loss of state funds for some of our roads that badly need better care.

There is no state mandate that we have a police department.

We need a full road crew. We need three less police officers. We need employees to pay at least 30 percent of health insurance costs. I am 85 years old, and I have to pay 100 percent of my health insurance.

We need the town manager to live in Brandon or pay her own travel expenses. How many of our taxpayers get paid big bucks to travel back and forth to work?

    BEVERLY LENT
