    Bertha Mae Counter, 72, of Rutland, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    She was born in Middlebury on Nov. 23, 1941, the daughter of Leonard and Lena (Clark) Dukette.

    She received her early education in Salisbury. On Dec. 7, 1959, she married Raymond Counter and became a housewife and homemaker raising her family.

    In earlier years, Mrs. Counter worked at Brandon Training School as an aide. She later was employed for more than 20 years as an LNA at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, retiring in 2007.

    She enjoyed county music and the Old Time Fiddlers.

    Survivors include five children, Rick Counter of Essex Junction, Raymond Counter of Brandon, Richard Counter Jr. of Derby, Sherry Ingalls of Irasburg and Julie Dodge of Brattleboro; four siblings, Kenneth Dukette of Brandon, Barbara Dukette and Diane Euber, both of Rutland, and Elaine McLaren of Salisbury; her companion, Marlin Cram, and former husband, Dick Counter Sr., both of Brandon; 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and seven cousins.

    She was predeceased by a grandson.

    The funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, July 30, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon, where friends may call from 11 a.m. prior to the service, and followed by burial in Holman Cemetery in Salisbury and then a reception at Brandon American Legion Post #55.
