Avoiding issue in Gaza war
Jules Rabin’s rambling piece in Sunday’s Barre Montpelier Times Argus/Rutland Herald raises an interesting question: how could he write such a long piece without ever using words like Hamas, tunnels into Israel, the use of homes and mosques and schools to store munitions, Israel’s historic voluntary withdrawal from Gaza, etc.?
We learn about Mr. Rabin’s sleeping habits, his wife’s handwriting ability, and his broken relationship (if I can call it that) with Sen. Patrick Leahy. Nothing about any missiles ever coming out of Gaza into Israel.
I appreciate that both newspapers have a generally open letters to the editor policy. However, I assumed that longer op-ed submissions would receive an editorial quality review. It is disappointing that is apparently not the case.
