    CHESTER — Leonard W. Eddy, 94, died unexpectedly at the Springfield Hospital on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

    He was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Ernest R. and Mary A. (Rawson) Eddy. He attended Leland & Gray in Townshend. He moved to Vermont in the 1930s to Townshend, and moved to a farm in West Chester in 1938, where he resided the remainder of his life.

    He served in the United States Army in World War II and was deployed to Japan with the first ship of occupation troops.

    On July 4, 1943, he married Caroline Farrar in Chester, recently celebrating 71 years of marriage.

    Mr. Eddy was a dairy farmer, logger, worked in many sawmills in the area, drove milk truck and worked for the Town of Chester for several years. Over the years he survived multiple serious accidents related to farming and logging. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, cutting wood, reading and watching sports.

    He was a member of the American Legion Post 67 in Chester, the Chester Grange and a member of the Sons of Union Veterans.

    He is survived by his wife Caroline of Chester; two daughters, Mary E. Semones of Chester and Nancy C. Eddy of White River Junction; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was predeceased by his brother E. Raymond Eddy and his sister Caroline E. Patnode.

    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday Aug. 7, at the Andover Community Church in Andover. The Rev. Daryl Martens, pastor, will officiate.

    Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Chester.

    Contributions may be made in his name to the Andover Community Church, 2625 Simonsville Road, Andover, VT 05143.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
