    Wayne and Judy Johnston

    CHIPPENHOOK — Wayne F. Johnston, 73 of Chippenhook passed away Tuesday, July 29th, 2014 at home after a long illness. Wayne was born January 9th, 1941 in Rutland, the son of the late Fletcher and Bessie (Chambers) Johnston. He graduated from Rutland High School and Rutland Business College. He started his accounting career at CVPS. He then worked at Tuttle Patterson and Smith, Batchelder and Rugg until becoming self-employed as an accountant and co-owner of Country Arms, a gun shop in Chippenhook. Wayne is survived by his Aunt Alta Johnston of Ira, and a cousin Ron and his wife Marinell also of Ira.

    His wife of 48 years, Judith (Bowen) Johnston passed away five days later on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at home. Judy was born June 29th, 1941 in Rutland, the daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy (Bartlett) Bowen. She graduated from Rutland High School and went to work at First Vermont Bank, where she remained until her retirement in 1985. Not one to stay still for long, she started another career at The Vermont Country Store shortly afterwards and spent a few years there. Judy is survived by a brother Richard Bowen and his wife Maria of Rochester, New Hampshire, a sister, Loretta Glevis and her husband George of Jupiter Florida and a sister Martha Bowen.

    Wayne and Judy were married on November 23rd, 1963. They began their married life in Rutland then moved to Pittsford for a couple years before settling in Chippenhook. Both Wayne and Judy are survived by their son Michael and his wife Carissa and their grandson Mick, all of Middletown Springs, Vermont. They are also survived by their friend and Wayne’s business partner Jim Genovesi and will be missed by so many friends and neighbors.

    A celebration of life for both will be held August 16th, 2014 at 1 p.m. at their home in Chippenhook, 3241 Walker Mountain Road.

    Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Ira.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, The New England Hemophilia Association or to your local animal shelter.
